60 US dollars

Course Description

Pregnancy after loss has a complex interplay of hope, grief, anxiety, & uncertainty. While subsequent pregnancy may be seen as a positive new chapter, many individuals & couples still carry the emotional impact of miscarriage, stillbirth, infant loss, termination for medical reasons, fertility treatment, or other reproductive losses. Clinicians must help clients navigate intense fear, hypervigilance, attachment concerns, medical triggers, & the influence of previous loss on their experience of pregnancy. This course offers practical assessment strategies & therapeutic interventions to (1) support clients through pregnancy to the transition to parenthood and (2) provide compassionate, evidence-informed care to those navigating the emotional complexities of pregnancy after loss. You’ll Learn: 1. The unique challenges of pregnancy after loss 2. Strategies to support clients navigating pregnancy after loss 3. Lessons for the next pregnancy and transition to parenthood Course Objectives: 1. Identify the common emotional, cognitive, & relational experiences of pregnancy 2. Examine prior reproductive loss impacts on subsequent pregnancy, and on emotional well-being, partner relationships, & prenatal attachment 3. Apply trauma-informed & attachment-based interventions to support clients navigating fear, uncertainty, & grief during pregnancy after loss 4. Develop treatment strategies promoting emotional regulation, meaning-making, & resilience to support clients through pregnancy, birth, & transition to parenthood Level: Introduction Importance to Ms. Erickson: “Throughout my work in perinatal & reproductive mental health, I am continually struck by the emotional complexity of pregnancy after loss. Clients often describe feeling caught between hope & fear, excitement & grief, while struggling to find space for both experiences to be acknowledged. Supporting individuals & couples through pregnancies highlighted the need for clinicians to understand the unique psychological & relational challenges that emerge after reproductive loss.” Instructor Bio: Jessica Erickson, LCSW, specializes in women's mental health & relationship issues. Ms. Erickson is extensively trained & experienced as a psychotherapist serving in leadership & supervisory positions at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Additional experience as a doula, mindfulness-based childbirth & parenting teacher, and perinatal yoga teacher, informs her clinical work.
