Basic Solution-Focused Brief Therapy

15 CE's | Nov 11 9am-4pm | Nov 12 9am-4pm | Nov 13 9am-12pm | $325

Class Description

Schedule: Nov. 11th: 9am-4pm EST Nov. 12th: 9am-4pm EST Nov. 13th: 9am-12pm EST There has been greater awareness of solution- focus brief therapy (SFBT) since its inception in 1982. It is common for SFBT to be included in survey courses in undergraduate and graduate social work programs. Several universities have included SFBT dedicated courses. While centralized training had been available at Brief Family Therapy Center (BFTC), the home of SFBT, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the training is much more regionalized with the passing of both Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg. The difficulty is finding trainers who have the experience and training in order to teach SFBT. The basic solution-focused brief therapy training is a 2 and ½ days course. The training is highly interactive with experiential exercises to illustrate major points, video examples, discussions, and role playing to practice this treatment modality. - Identify significant historical developments that have developed the model - Discuss the distinction between solution building and problem solving: how to think beyond the medical model. - Understand the 11 SF assumptions that drive the model - Identify the 8 elements of a useful goal. - Structure follow-up sessions to continue the solution-building process. - Recognize solution-building opportunities from client utterances. Joel has been in clinical social work practice for over 40 years in various inpatient and outpatient settings. He has been providing solution-focused therapy (SFBT), training, supervision, and consultation since 1992. Joel was trained in SFBT by Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg at the Brief Family Therapy Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the home of solution-focused brief therapy. Joel is a founding member of the Solution-Focused Brief Therapy Association. Joel co-authored several articles on solution-focus and has authored or co-authored 3 books on solution-focused topics.
