Course Description

Calm in the Chaos: Nervous System Regulation in the Age of 24/7 News Synopsis: Clinical Approaches to Nervous System Regulation in a High-Alert Media Environment Frequent exposure to alarming headlines—such as conflict, disasters, and economic uncertainty—can keep the nervous system in a prolonged state of fight-or-flight. Without intentional regulation through rest, movement, mindfulness, and healthy digital boundaries, the brain and body may remain focused on survival responses that negatively affect daily functioning. This course introduces practical regulation techniques to help the body distinguish between immediate, real threats and distant events. By fostering a calmer, more grounded response to distressing information, participants can move from reactive patterns driven by fear and overload to more thoughtful, proactive engagement. YOU WILL LEARN: Techniques that support empathetic conversations and healthier dialogue in the clinical setting, especially around controversial news topics Practices to stay aware of sociopolitical world events, without becoming overwhelmed Ways to help clients maintain emotional resilience, and engage with the world in a more balanced and constructive way Course Objectives Differentiate between emotional states that impact intentional vs. compulsive engagement with the news Analyze nervous system responses to news cycles Distinguish between an overstimulated and an under-stimulated nervous system to regulate emotional responses to the news Identify ways to help clients develop more deliberate decisions towards their media consumption About the Instructor Dr. Sogand Zakerhaghighi is a trauma-informed Mental Health Professional, inclusive content creator, and trusted wellness voice with a global audience of over two million.
