Class Description

This seminar will focus on the most important Therapeutic Factors that make Group Therapy effective. Clinicians will learn about innovative ways to engage clients, provide support, and work through conflicts. It will also focus on ways to lead the Group, define expectations and rules, set limits, and encourage interaction. Clinicians will learn specific skills and techniques they can use for a variety of presenting problems. Topics- Group Therapy- Goals and Objectives. Advantages of Group Therapy Therapeutic and Curative Factors within Group therapy. Effective Group Therapy Skills. Clinical Interventions- Leading the group, Setting limits, Guiding interaction, Giving emotional support, Focusing on content and process. Types of Groups Working through conflicts and resistance. Identifying clients’ roles in the group. Social worker’s Role during engagement, working phase, and termination phase. Video material- Demonstrate Group therapy skills and techniques. Objectives- Identify 3 specific techniques to engage clients in Group therapy. Recall 4 therapeutic factors that make group therapy effective. Learn 3 specific group therapy skills that help clients express their feelings and stay goal focused. Identify 3 new group therapy topics to use to enhance group engagement. Presented By: Dr. Feldman has 30 years of experience as a Clinical Director, Psychotherapist, and Supervisor. He is currently the Clinical Director at Journey to Wellness substance abuse program in NJ. He has taught numerous clinical topics as an Adjunct Professor at Rutgers University MSW Program since 1995. As a professional speaker, he has presented more than 300 Clinical CEU Seminars at Medical Centers, Agencies, and local Universities. In addition, he has expertise in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Family Therapy, Personality Disorders, and Emotional Disorders. He is also the author of three clinical manuals- "The Psychotherapy Manual," "Co-occurring Disorders manual," and "Shame Affect." (on amazon.com).
