Class Description

Leading Through Change: Adaptive Leadership Strategies for Social Workers This course explores adaptive leadership strategies tailored for social workers navigating challenges of today's dynamic political landscape. Participants will learn how to lead with resilience, foster collaboration, and respond effectively to systemic changes while staying rooted in our social work values. Through practical tools and interactive discussions, this training equips social works to drive meaningful impact in their communities. Course Objectives By the end of this course, participants will: Develop a clear understanding of adaptive leadership principles and how they apply to social work practice in navigating uncertainty, complexity, and change Implement adaptive leadership techniques to effectively respond to the evolving political and social challenges within diverse social work settings Integrate core social work values into leadership approaches to promote equity, justice, and sustainable systemic change, while using everyday advocacy in the workplace as a foundation for broader macro-level impact About the Instructor Dena Spanos, LMSW, SIFI, is a transformational leader with over ten years of experience in the human services field. Having served as a community educator, case manager, program manager, and supervisor, she approaches her work through an anti-oppressive lens, leading with empathy, compassion, and curiosity. For the past four years, Dena has specialized in immigration within social work, working in legal services and refugee resettlement offices to advocate for immigrant communities. She leads a diverse team that provides direct services to New Americans, offering specialized trainings and coordinating volunteer services to support their needs. Driven by a strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and cultural humility, Dena works with an anti-oppressive lens to foster systemic change and build systems of collective care for both staff and clients. As a dedicated mentor, she holds her SIFI certification and actively supervises social work interns, helping shape the next generation of social work leaders.

    To obtain your CE certificate, you must complete the course survey, which will be accessible five minutes before the Zoom session ends.
