Psychedelics in Clinical Perspective

10/22/2026 | Thursday, 1pm - 5pm ET | 4 CE hours | $80

80 US dollars

Course Description

Traditional treatment of mental health conditions & substance use disorders leave too many people without lasting recovery. After decades of prohibited & stagnant research, psychedelics are re-emerging as promising therapeutic tools. Yet, misinformation, regulatory barriers, & lack of education leave professionals unprepared to counsel patients about psychedelics—for therapy, ceremony, or recreation. Based on top journals, learn the pharmacology, mechanisms of action, & clinical applications of psychedelics (LSD, psilocybin, DMT, mescaline), entactogens (MDMA), dissociatives (ketamine, PCP, DXM), cannabinoids, & other compounds. Learn: 1. Historical roots, cultural contexts, & modern clinical renaissance of psychedelics 2. How psychedelics affect the brain, & are harnessed to develop new treatments 3. Risks, benefits, contraindications, & therapeutic potential of psychedelic compounds—to support clients amid the evolution of psychedelic medicine Course Objectives: 1. Identify primary receptor mechanisms of various psychedelics 2. Give safety profiles of psychedelics: toxicity, addiction potential, & psychosis risk 3. Summarize evidence of psychedelic-assisted therapies for depression, PTSD, & treatment-resistant mood disorders 4. Explain & apply the regulatory status of major psychedelics to psychedelic-assisted treatment options Importance to Dr. Stewart: “After decades of clinical work, I’ve seen how often conventional approaches fall short—leaving patients cycling through relapse, treatment, & relapse again with little lasting change. Current models for treating addiction & psychological disorders fail too many people. What has my attention—and my hope—is evidence of psychedelic compounds doing what most psychiatric medications cannot: shift the psychological contexts of how people live their lives, creating new openings for healing.” Bio: Dr. Stewart is a retired physician with expertise in addiction medicine & extensive clinical experience with psychedelic-related care. He served as Clinical Director for Treatment Services for the Texas Department of Substance Abuse Services & for Recovery Support Services at MAP Health Management. His psychiatric training included treating patients using psychedelics medicinally, recreationally, or ceremonially at the Haight-Ashbury Clinic and in Brazil (ayahuasca) & Mexico (psilocybin & DMT). He’s currently the Spiritual Director at Personal Responsibility Recovery, an intensive residential treatment center.
