Course Description

Radical Empathy in Practice: Deepening Understanding and Connection Discover how radical empathy can transform therapeutic practice through practical, real-world applications grounded in extensive clinical experience. Participants will learn how to move beyond traditional notions of empathy to engage with clients in ways that foster deeper understanding, connection, and accountability—even in the most challenging cases. Designed for licensed and pre-licensed behavioral health professionals who approach their work with compassion and courage. This course helps expand your capacity for connection and cultivate nuanced understandings. YOU WILL LEARN: Through interactive discussions, case studies, and practical exercises, participants will enhance their ability to: Apply radical empathy to build trust with clients who are difficult to reach Enhance therapeutic effectiveness across diverse populations, including high-risk and marginalized groups Recognize and navigate their own biases and emotional responses Integrate radical empathy into everyday practice for improved client outcomes Course Objectives Develop the capacity to practice radical empathy by recognizing personal biases, emotional triggers, and judgments when working with challenging clients Apply radical empathy techniques in clinical settings, including with high-risk populations, to build trust, foster accountability, and deepen therapeutic connection Incorporate radical empathy into clinical practice to enhance understanding, strengthen relationships, and improve client outcomes across diverse populations Instructor Dr. Amy Miller specializes in sex and sexuality, women’s sexual health, and working with the LGBTQ+ community using an approach focused on creating safe, validating spaces for exploration, growth, and empowerment. After years of teaching and supervising future therapists, she founded Argyle Therapy Group to connect clients seeking support around sex and sexuality with compassionate, skilled therapists who are improving how to think about sexual wellness. Previously, Dr. Miller spent over 15 years helping clients navigate complex issues around sex, intimacy, and relationships. She also has extensive experience working closely with sex offenders leading to deep insight into human behavior, accountability, and healing. Dr. Miller is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) who earned her Master’s and Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Nova Southeastern University.
