Solution-Focused Brief Therapy - Level 1

16 CE's | June 2nd & 3rd-9:30am-4:30pm, June 4th 9:30am-1:30pm | $350

Class Description

Class Description Schedule Thursday, June 2nd -9:30am -4:30pm Friday, June 3rd - 9:30am-4:30pm Saturday, June 4:30th - 9:30am-1:30pm Introduction: There has been greater awareness of solution focus brief therapy (SFBT) since its inception in 1982. It is common for SFBT to be included in survey courses in both undergraduate and graduate social work programs. Several universities have included SFBT dedicated courses. While centralized training had been available at Brief Family Therapy Center (BFTC), the home of SFBT, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with the passing of both Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg, training is now much more regionalized. The difficulty is finding trainers who have the experience and training in order to teach SFBT. The basic solution-focused brief therapy training is a 2 and ½ days course. Over the course of the 2 and ½ days, participants will learn: • The evolution of the SF approach • Co-constructive language • Solution building versus problem solving • Assumptions that drive the model. • Goal setting • Microanalysis of Opportunities: How to listen with solution-building ears • The 7 solution focused intervention tools The pre-session question Future oriented questions The Miracle Question Exception Questions Scaling questions Coping Questions The clinical “thinking” break. o E.A.R.S: Structuring follow up sessions.. The training is highly interactive with experiential exercises to illustrate major points, video examples, discussions, and role playing to practice the 7 tools. Course Objectives Participants be abele to: • Identify significant historical developments that have evolved the model • Identify the distinction between solution building and problem solving: how to think beyond the medical model. • Use the 11 SF assumptions that drive the model • Identify and facilitate their clients to determine the 8 elements of a useful goal. • Implement the 7 solution focused intervention tools and video examples of their use in actual sessions. • Structure follow up sessions to continue the solution building process. • Recognize solution-building opportunities from client utterances.
