Class Description
This seminar on Family Therapy will focus on various Clinical Interventions that are highly effective for a variety of presenting problems. Topics include various Family Therapy Models of treatment, strategies and goals. The seminar will also explore ways to restructure bounders, reframe problems, identify triangulation, and help clients improve communication skills. In this 2 hours course, participants will be part of a LIVE instruction and receive the class material to follow along with presentation. During this course, participants will engage in different activities to gain first hand experience on how to utilize the model. Participants are required to be present for 2 hours. Brief History of Family Therapy, Theories and Family concepts by Ackerman, Bowen, Whitaker, Minuchin, Haley, McGoldrick Communication patterns and Intergenerational Family trends. Resistance and Homeostasis within the family. Role of Therapist facilitation Family Therapy. Professional use of self, Setting boundaries, Understanding Family Triangles and dysfunctional communication. Therapy Techniques - Contracting and setting measurable Goals. Using tasks and homework assignments. Use of Genograms - McGoldrick Reframing problems and Restructuring boundaries. Focus of Treatment - Is it the identified patient or the whole Family? Empirical evidence of Family therapy efficacy. Clinical skills and the Personality of the therapist. What works well? Course Objectives: -Identify 3 common intergenerational family problems. -Recall 3 ways to use Genograms to help families understand their family patterns. -Name 4 specific roles that family members may have within their family. -Recall 4 effective Family therapy interventions to improve communication within families. Dr. Feldman has 30 years of experience as a Clinical Director, Psychotherapist, and Supervisor. He is currently the Clinical Director at Journey to Wellness substance abuse program in NJ. He has taught numerous clinical topics as an Adjunct Professor at Rutgers University MSW Program since 1995. As a professional speaker, he has presented more than 300 Clinical CEU Seminars at Medical Centers, Agencies, and local Universities. In addition, he has expertise in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Family Therapy, Personality Disorders, and Emotional Disorders. He is also the author of several manuals available on Amazon.
