Navigating Grief During The Holidays

Class Description

Under normal circumstance, the holiday season can be stressful. Holidays are different when we are grieving, yet we can learn to cope during difficult moments. If you are grieving or walking alongside a griever, this workshop offers practical tips & tangible coping skills to provide comfort, support & hope while making wise self-care choices to navigate the holidays! The workshop spotlights the 10 C's of coping with grief, highlights the mind-body-spirit impact of grief, examines the benefits of writing a script using case studies, explores the Do's & Don'ts of planning ahead & addresses how to manage self-imposed expectations! The workshop explores how to incorporate familiar rituals and customs by integrating transitions with a twist. The workshop emphasizes a continued bond with a loved one & how to move forward with them through the holiday season. - Define loss and grief, types of grievers, the dual process model of grief, the adaptation and integration process of the 4 tasks of grievers on their journey - Identify the top 10 C's of coping with grief to help navigate oscillating emotions. - Explore the experience between grief mind-body-spirit connections - Examine the benefit Instructors: Gae Savino, LCSW, CT, a licensed clinical social worker & certified death, dying & bereavement counselor, is Founder, Mindful Heart Counseling Services, Westchester. Educated at Fordam University's Graduate School of Social Service, Gae trained at the Center for Complicated Grief at Columbia University, Four-Winds Hospital, Katonah, Calvary Hospital & The Bereavement Center. She facilitates bereavement support groups: Trauma ICU, WMC Caregivers Center, Addiction, Spousal, COVID, Loss & Post-COVID Recovery. Gae works with Catholic Charities' Parish Counseling Network Program. Linnie Pickering, LMSW received her BA in English from the University of Pennsylvania and her master's degree in social work from Columbia University. She is a specialist in the prevention of domestic violence, child abuse, suicide, and sexual assault. She did post-graduate training at Columbia University's Center for Complicated Grief, and her focus is now on issues related to loss, grief, death, dying and bereavement, complicated grief, and the multifaceted grief/bereavement impact of COVID-19.

It is necessary for all the participants of the workshop to have the capability of video and audio as this workshop is interactive and participant interaction is required. You are able to interact with the lecturer by using the chat function or verbally (if you have a working microphone).

Requirements for Registration

In order for CHI Professional Development to award you a Certificate of Completion, I am required to obtain certain information from you. The information requested is dependent on what course you are taking.

·         Sign into the workshop on time. We will start promptly and there will be a cutoff for entry.

·         You are required to stay logged in and actively participate throughout the entire presentation.

·         Your attendance will be verified by the logon information provided by ZOOM.

·         Once the course is completed and your attendance is verified, you will receive a link to the course survey.

·         After completion of the survey, you will have the opportunity to print or download a PDF copy of your certificate.
