Class Description
Assessment skills, understanding the DSM 5, and identifying symptoms are critical when making an accurate diagnosis. This seminar will focus on specific questions to use during the initial interview and observation skills. The topics will include descriptions of depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, and psychotic disorders. The presenter will focus on ways to assess the client’s cognitive functioning, emotional stability, orientation, judgment, ego strengths, and defenses. -Identify five critical components of the psychosocial assessment. -Recall four questions to use when assessing mood disorders. -Describe two types of depressive disorders -Recall three ways to assess clients’ judgment and orientation. Instructors: Philip Feldman, PhD, LCSW Dr. Feldman has 30 years of experience as a Clinical Director, Psychotherapist, and Supervisor. He is currently the Clinical Director at the Journey to Wellness substance abuse program in New Jersey. He has taught numerous clinical topics as an Adjunct Professor at the Rutgers University MSW Program since 1995. As a professional speaker, he has presented more than 300 Clinical CEU Seminars. He is also the author of "The Psychotherapy Manual," "Co-occurring Disorders manual," and "Shame Affect." (These are available on Aamazon.com). He completed his PhD at Rutgers, his MSW at Yeshiva University, and his BA at Emory College.
